This week, one of our clients, one of Denmark’s leading media companies, is launching a brand-new subscription system designed to enhance their subscription business and improve the experience for their subscribers.
With this launch, a significant milestone is reached in a long process that we have had the pleasure of assisting with. Ensuring the right system support for our clients’ subscription businesses is a cornerstone of our advisory services. In a time of increasing competition in the subscription market and rising subscriber expectations for a seamless experience, having the right IT infrastructure has never been more crucial from a subscription business perspective.

We highlight this very fact in our latest strategy report, Subscription Trends 2025, where we have identified Future-Proofing the IT Infrastructure of Subscription Businesses as one of the five most important trends for the coming year.
Three key drivers behind investments in new infrastructure
As outlined in the report, three main factors are driving the renewed interest in investing in future-proof IT infrastructure.
First, subscribers are increasingly driven by flexibility. The ability to easily purchase, cancel, and modify their subscriptions. This requires robust self-service solutions that make it seamless for customers to switch in and out of their subscriptions.
Second, personalization of the subscriber journey is essential for delivering a modern subscription experience. Personalization is challenging. It depends on having the right data foundation and is only successful if you can fully trust the data you have on each individual subscriber. This requires the right system infrastructure to ensure you always have accurate subscription details – information that can be leveraged in CRM activities and support real-time communication across channels.

Third, there is an increasing focus on processes and efforts to reduce churn. Automated and integrated churn prevention processes require full access to data and a modern, modular system infrastructure. This ensures the ability to leverage the best tools and gain valuable insights to keep subscribers engaged.
The subscription system: The core component of your business
When we talk about IT infrastructure, we refer not only to the core system that ensures you can continuously charge and receive payments from your subscribers but also to the surrounding systems that interact with your subscribers and contribute to the overall subscription experience.
This core system is what I mentioned at the beginning, the very system we recently helped one of our clients select. In everyday terms, we often call it the subscription system. More precisely, it is referred to as a Subscription Management System or a Subscription Billing System. This is a critical component for any subscription business, ensuring a seamless flow for invoicing and payments. Not only is this essential for business operations, but it also has a significant impact on the overall subscriber experience.

With the ever-growing subscription movement, more and more providers are entering the market for subscription solutions. As a result, navigating this landscape can feel like a jungle, making it a complex task to choose the right solution.
That’s why, at Subscrybe, we have developed a model to help ensure the best possible solution for any given subscription business. Together with our clients, we map out business requirements and the strategy the solution needs to support. From an extensive list of more than 30-40 potential providers, we identify the systems best suited to move into the final specification and negotiation phase.
So, if you’re unsure whether your subscription business has the right IT infrastructure or the best subscription system, don’t hesitate to reach out to me or your favorite Subscryber.
