In the latest issue of the renowned American magazine, Fast Company, the 50 most innovative companies are listed. As subscription enthusiasts it’s amazing to confirm that seven of the first on the list, are all based in the subscription and member economy. The list of the seven subscription companies are:

  1. Amazon
  2. Google
  3. Uber
  4. Apple
  5. Snap
  6. Facebook
  7. Netflix

This is what Fast Company writes about Amazin, the world’s most innovative company:

In the last 22 years, Amazon has moved from one sector to the other and has optimized whatever they have taken on, even if it meant tearing down their own existing structures. The latest version of Amazon’s music streaming service, Amazon Music Unlimited was constructed on top of Amazon’s own first music store, MP3, which opened nine years ago.

Unlike Apple, Google and Microsoft, Amazon is not stuck in a tightly designed ecosystem of intertwined apps and services. Instead, Bezos pushes platforms that service Amazon’s own customers in the best and quickest way.

”Our customers are loyal to us right up until the second somebody offers them a better service. And I love that. It’s super-motivating for us, ” Bezos says to Fast Company.

This impulsive mindset has produced an abundance os fantastic and creative “first” streams in Amazon. For example, Prime Video went live in more than 200 countries last year, followed by the debut of The Grand Tour, Amazon’s most viewed premiere ever.

”Our job is to invent new options that nobody’s ever thought of before and see if customers like them”, Jeff Bezos says to Fast Company.

Bezos’ strategy of continuous evolution has made it possible for Amazon to experiment in areas that are close to their existing business areas – and then, make them into franchises. The website, which used to only sell books now lets anyone set up a webshop and sell more or less anything.

Amazon’s warehouse and logistics capacities to sort packages and ship them are available for any seller, willing to pay. Amazon Web Services, which grew out of the company’s own e-commerce infrastructure needs has become a $13 billion dollar business. Amazon is a remarkable company, rising to the top of Fast Company’s list because it has managed to be continuously agile, even when reaching a substantial size.
